Hunter Boots: Are they still the gold standard?

Welcome to Hunter Boots Reviews, your independent resource for honest,field-tested (literally field tested) feedback on one of Britain’s most iconic footwear brands. Whether you’re looking for a festival staple or a heavy-duty work boot, I’ll cut through the ‘heritage marketing’ to tell you how these boots actually perform in the mud.

Splits in Hunter Wellington Boot

Hunter Wellingtons

The best wellington boot?

For decades, the “Original Tall” has been a symbol of country luxury. But as production methods have shifted and the brand has evolved, many outdoor enthusiasts are asking: Are Hunter boots still worth the investment? Quick answer: NO! They are an appalling product backed up by non-existent, obfuscated business. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you want to know why – do a deeper dive into this site.

Nope! Splits in various areas as well as split seams and peeling. A basic requirement not met after 4th time of wearing (yes, 4th). Wellington boots that keep your feet dry? Not from Hunter – they like to be different and keep your feet wet.

Absolutely not! These things are falling apart after very little wear in wet, grassy fields. Complete fail of the very basic requirement of a wellington boot. I think these things are bio-degradable considering how they’ve almost turned to dust in 4 months.

Value for money?

If you want to feel like you’ve been mugged then Hunter Boots are the ones for you. These things are AWFUL. Save your money and avoid them. They won’t keep your feet dry and warm – they let water in and keep it there. A terrible product.

All the Ps from Hunter: Premium Price = P*ss Poor Product

The Hunter Balmoral Neoprene Wellington boots that I regrettably bought, are designed for harsh winter conditions and rugged terrain. However, short-term testing tells a different story.

Despite the premium price tag, they aren’t durable and there are many issues which you wouldn’t expect from a low-budget manufacturer let alone a premium brand like Hunter.

Split Hunter Wellington Boot

Splitting at flex points

Manufacturing Failures: rubber perishing and cracking at flex points.

Abysmal Performance

Mind the “luxury” gap

The shoddy performance does not justify a price point often exceeding £200, especially when compared to rivals like Le Chameau or Aigle. Hunter products do not even match up to budget brands based on my experience. In fact, I’d like to challenge Hunter Boots to make a better pair of wellies than I could in my shed. They are woefully poor and are not fit for purpose. Hunter should be ashamed – will they be? No. They’ll keep ignoring customers, continue to churn out the crap and expect their business to survive.

Broken Hunter Welly

Extensive splitting

Remember: The splitting present in both boots began after the 4th time of wearing in a flat, moist, grassy field in Somerset. These boots have not been tested in the environments that you think they are built for e.g. farmyards, woodlands, etc. Yes, these boots really are rubbish!

Cracking

‘Cracking’, ‘splitting’ however you want to label it is extensive on these Hunter boots. They have not been stored near heat sources or sat in bright sunshine (we’ve hardly had any for the past few months!). These were box fresh and cleaned using the recommended product.

Peeling seams

The photo shows the peeling at the rear of the boot and yet more extensive splitting from the rear, around the ankle. This is on both sides of the boot. NOTE: This is not a tear or damage from a sharp object, this is just a failure of the product that has worsened over 2 months of gentle wear.

    Hunter Boots UK “support”

My experience of Hunter Boots customer care is, after significant time and energy expended, that they are awful. My conclusion is that their ‘care’ doesn’t exist and neither does their ‘support’. I emailed customer support at hunterboots.co.uk and each time was given a scripted answer that ‘they can only assist with products purchased directly…

You don’t have to put up with being ripped off by Hunter, they have had enough poor reviews to know that their product is poor but they are unwilling to help customers. Just check out their Trust Pilot reviews – pretty bad. Send me your review/rant and I’ll post it here for all to see. If nothing else it might make you feel better to get it off your chest.
